Sorry, I know posting twice in one day is a bit excessive, but I just had to write about this. This discussion took place over dinner:

Eternal Sunshine of my Spotless Mind.

Look between the keys in your keyboard sometime. If you’re anything like me, it’s probably really gross. I was peering down into the depths a few days ago and discovered an entire ecosystem of disgusting little particles that have fallen, presumably, from various parts of my body. When I’m working really hard and doing some intense thinking, I run my hands through my hair a lot, and apparently this dislodges a plethora of little grimy things that have set up shop near my hair follicles. I don’t have dirty hair. I wash it thoroughly and often two times a day. Needless to say, I shook as much as I could out of the keyboard and was greeted with a hideous pile of refuse on my desk, which was promptly moved to the floor behind my desk, where it now happily resides.

Don’t Pick Me.

Fridays are usually pretty great. Everyone always has huge plans for the weekend and people are just really excited. Here in Bergwall, people are usually most pumped about being able to stay up at all hours of the night playing Halo without any serious reprecussions the next day. Not that most people don’t have this attitude all the time anyway.

It’s really interesting how people react when you tell them your major. It’s like this: Yesterday at 4:00 I had my discussion group meeting for my Foundations of Christian Thought class. It’s where 8 students from the class get together as a “class” of their own and discuss stuff. This week we we supposed to discuss what brought us to Taylor, which of course would include discussion about majors. So, there are eight of us in a little room, and nobody really knows what to say, so we start with the assignment. I ended up saying my part somewhere in the middle, and it was really interesting to see people’s reaction when I said I was a computer science major, because lots of people had said stuff like, “I’m in this computer class right now and I hate it. It has nothing to do with my major and it’s retarded.” and things along that same line. As soon as I said Comp Sci, a few of the other students got real embarassed. For some reason they think that if they don’t like computers, and if they say so, that they’re being hugely offensive to me.

Keep It Coming.

Okay, so last night I went to IWU to see Denison Witmer. I was expecing it to be pretty good, but nothing too amazing, because, of course, I’ve already heard every good musician known to man. But, anyway, it turns out that Indiana Wesleyan has an amazing student center. I’m very jealous. It’s like a mall. They have their own little movie theater, coffee shop, diner, bookstore, everything. It’s nuts. And the worst part is that they’ve got these sweet facilities and have ridiuclous stuff like an 11:30 curfew and no rated R movies. What’s the point of a theater if you can’t watch any good movies?

I’d originally thought that it was going to be just Wimer playing, but much to me delight I found that Chris from Calibretto 13 was opening with his acoustic side project (well, it won’t be a side project much longer since they’re breaking up). He was really good. Be looking out for his material in the future. Ben from In The Face of War was there too just hanging out, so I talked to him about music and stuff and what Marc has been up to. Aparently there’s some big inter-band relation between Calibretto and ITFOW, though I’m not sure exactly what the inner working of it are.

Denison Witmer is pretty incredible. He writes some amazing music. Sort of in the same style as Dashboard I guess, but very mature and more leaning towards an indie feel rather than disintegrating into pop trash. But, for all of you acoustic junkies, check him out for sure. He’s got a few albums out himself, along with one or two with a band called The River Bends. I bought the more recent of the latter mentioned, and I can attest that it’s really good stuff.

In other news, I’m going to see The Decembrists on Thursday, so if any of you Ohioans are interested in that, let me know. Also, Calibretto is playing their last show in Kokomo (which is like right here) on the 30th of October. It’s aparently going to be a big Halloween bash, and I hear that if you wear a costume it’s only $5, or free. I’ve heard both as rumors. In The Face of War, Side Walk Slam, Mercury Radio Theater, and Fire When Ready will also be on the bill. Even if pop punky stuff isn’t you’re thing, it’s going to be a great time.
