So Sophisticated

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I was pretty excited when I found this in the mail today:

And by excited I mean revolted, but just before I was about to fling the ad onto the ground and stomp it into oblivion, the flashy little tagline near the bottom caught my eye. I may be behind on the times, but it did come as somewhat of a surprise to discover that Sexy is Sophisticated. But if you look a little closer, you’ll also notice that contrasting your radiantly white suit with a giant black chain is an integral part of being sexy/sophisticated, a fashion staple that I would have never imagined. This, in addition to having just stepped out of a black void of the netherworld that’s very “sophisticatedly” located between two walls constructed of newspaper, is a sure fire way to get all your friends and acquaintances to notice your refinement and intellect, which are now indelibly linked to your sex appeal. I guess all that’s left to do now is throw out the books and go for a makeover.

Tofu For Life

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

I don’t know how many of you have ever lived on your own or had to do your own cooking, but it’s been a new experience for me this year. One thing that I’ve learned rather quickly is that meat is expensive and a pain in the neck to prepare. It could be that I’m just too impatient to wait more than thirty seconds for something to be ready to eat (hence my affinity for easy to prepare things like apples, water, bread, etc.). Anyway, I was at Kroger today and noticed some packages of tofu over in the produce area. I’ve never had tofu, but it’s allegedly very healthy and can be used all sorts of ways in cooking. So I bought a package, despite the initial queasiness after discovering that the plastic container hid some manner of squishy liquid substance.

Working And Living

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Things have been pretty busy lately. I’ve been looking at new apartments to live in for next fall. Being closer to campus would be nice just in case we happen to have a real winter next year. Also, I was able to obtain a real job. I decided that I needed to buckle down and get some work that doesn’t involve shady deals and me having to say, “No, this really isn’t a scam,” every ten seconds. But I guess technically speaking, this job it’s a “real job” in the sense that I turned in an application and then had an interview and was then hired.

Even Heroes Need iTunes.

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Phew. Well, I don’t really have anything to write about right now, but I did just finish another photocomic. I’ll be glad to finally clear all the cereal boxes and cardboard remnants off my coffee table, and, well, pretty much everywhere else in the apartment.

In case you’re not super hero savvy, it’s sort of important for this one that you know a little about Captain America. He originated in WW2, and in one of the latter and more explosive battles, he was thought to have been killed. Instead, he actually got frozen in a big block of ice, and has recently been revived. Cap is a complicated character and I’m taking a lot of liberties with that, but I hope I can be forgiven. So, here’s Issue #2:

In case you missed it or are feeling nostalgic, here’s the entry with Issue #1.

The Bass And The Movement

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

It’s been a good weekend so far. For some reason on Friday I had the startling revelation that other people who are a lot smarter and more awesome than I will have made best of 2005 lists. So, with the use of the magical force that I like to call “The Internet”, and the help of some thoughtful metalhead bloggers and reviewers, I was able to discover some amazing new talent from this past year. Check the bottom to see some albums that I would highly recommend to anyone who is alive.
