I think watermelon makes life worth living in the summer. It’s so hot, but that doesn’t matter when I can sit down and eat a sweet, juicy slice of heaven. If I wouldn’t die from malnutrition as a result, I would definitely stop eating other foods. I also bought mango this week, but couldn’t figure out how to eat it. I don’t know if this is normal or not, but there was this basically impenetrable core in the middle, and only a little but of edible fruit around the edges. And even that bit wasn’t all that great. Maybe it wasn’t ripe? I don’t know anything about mangos. Watermelon is easy to figure out and delicious.

It’s been a nice long weekend. On Thursday evening I finished reading Ian McEwan’s Saturday, which was supposedly just about the best novel of 2005. I disagree. As soon as I finished that book I began reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. Now that was a page turner. I stayed up late Thursday reading it, and then spent several hours Friday reading. I finished the book that evening at the new Ben & Jerry’s that just opened here.

Monday was rather exciting because I had a news story and my Over The Hedge review in the newspaper. I also discovered that The News Record can be found in its entirety online. I put a link to the site over on the right (to get to the archives, you have to click on a link that’s on the ‘search’ page).

I just finished writing another story for The News Record. This time I went and covered an awards banquet, though to preserve my ethical piety and the reputation of the school paper, I wasn’t allowed to eat anything. It was annoying, I had to keep telling people that I wasn’t eating even though they kept shoving cheese cake and salad and wine in my face. The banquet was interesting not only for that reason, but also because the main event was the presentation of the C-Ring award; and award for the “best all around gal”. So as it happens, I was the only male there who wasn’t a parent, husband or professor of some sort. When I got there I realized that it was a little dressier than I’d planned for. I was pretty much wearing my nicest clothes I had that weren’t a suit and tie, but luckily I was able to quickly duck into a bathroom to button my top shirt button as well as my cuffs. Even though they always do in the movies, I’m still not quite sure if it’s okay for reporters to always dress casually and have a few days of stubble.

I Love The Nineties

An international burrito place called Boloco opened near campus today. I was going to go eat there, but the line was well out the door and down the street. Apparently they were running a special where you got a free burrito when you bought a large drink or smoothie. So, yeah, I was really bummed out. But I did manage to discover a new Chinese restaurant (No surprise there. Chinese restaurants in Clifton are like gas stations in other cities.) But this place is really cool. The dinner meal was only five dollars and they don’t give you so much food that you feel like you’re going to die after eating it. I guess since I’ve moved out and been forced to rely on my own cooking abilities I’ve gotten used to eating smaller portions.
