My Newest Holiday Ever

September 30, 2006

I’m really enjoying everything that I’m doing right now, but the stress level is unbelievable. You’re all probably thinking, “Yeah, welcome to real life Andrew,” but this is crazy and new for me. I’m the kid that has never in my life taken on any obligation above the bare minimum required. But I’m beginning to see why so many people are so busy all the time. Now that I have tons of stuff going on all the time, any few minutes that I don’t have something I’m supposed to be doing I get really bored. I have a hard time just bumming around my apartment for hours on end like I used to. I’m not sure if this is a good thing or not.

September 27, 2006

Whoever is in charge of keeping terrible opinion out of the hands of the public is apparently asleep at the wheel. Somehow in the course of the strange and wacky events of my life I landed a columnist position at the newspaper here. I still don’t really understand how it happened. I was on my way to hopefully not be beaten to death by the News Record staff when all of a sudden the entertainment editor popped out of nowhere and asked me if I’d be able to write a column for the next day. I said “Sure” and ended up the Wednesday entertainment columnist for the rest of the quarter. That night I went home and looked up on Google “How to write a column”. Anyway, here’s the first installment of the insanity that is my column.

Back To School Delirium

September 24, 2006

The week since Wednesday has been pure insanity, the real gut-wrenching, mind-altering kind. Classes started on the 20th and went off more or less without a hitch. On Wednesday and Thursday I had work right after class and didn’t get home until a little after ten both nights. And I actually have to do stuff at work these days, what with all the wide-eyed rodents and cretins scurrying around, about to bust a gut looking for their textbooks and then running back just as fast to return them. It’s really not so bad though, because being busy makes the time creep by less slowly. But between the bookstore, classes, The News Record, and my job reading textbooks (which I’ve not yet started), it’s been a lot to take in.

It’s A Quickie

September 21, 2006

Classes have started again and I’ve found myself in quite the torrent of activity. I won’t go into the great detail now because I’d like to do a long-winded account of the past few days later when I have more time. This is just going to be a bragging entry, since I haven’t really had many people (that care) to brag to about my exploits with the pen. And I still delude myself into believing that everyone out there in the blogosphere cares.

It’s Official

September 18, 2006

I officially have the textbook reading job now. The “interview” lasted about six minutes and was more or less solely to be sure that I hadn’t forgotten how to read or think since the first interview. While I was on campus after getting the job I decided to stop by The News Record to find out when they planned on getting things rolling there. As it happened, the new managing editor was in the office, so we talked for a bit and then he asked if I wanted a story to work on. I said Sure and so Andrew Welsh is now officially back on the case. I have a feeling that this school year is going to be 1024 times busier than last year. But I’m fine with that; for the most part I enjoy what I’m doing.
