Waiting for the DJ

A couple of days ago I was walking to my car and passed an old man on the street. He was a scruffy, bushy gray-haired guy with bulging glasses that may have been issued him by the military during WW2. I was dropping my book bag into the car and wondering if it would rain, and whether or not wearing suede shoes had been a mistake (I’ve come to own more than a few pairs of shoes and usually, and rather embarrassingly, check the weather to see which would be most appropriate to wear), when the old man turn to me and said, “It’s winter!” I mulled this over as he plodded off, apparently unconcerned as to whether or not I had any reply.
